I'm Back!
So I just finished a very entertaining and deconstructive Christmas Break.
It was 3 weeks of relaxation, too bad I was in FL for the first week, sick the second, and prepping for next semester/ errands the third.
I did manage to catch up on some interesting TV shows online like Arrested Development, True Blood, Secret Diary of a Call Girl to name a few.
Anyway FL sucked because my family is crazy. They also got me lost on a boat in the middle of the Atlantic with no GPS or flashlights. At nighttime.
I swear I looked out to my left and all I saw was black. The sea and sky no longer were separated. It was trippy. I also feared Jaws might jump out an any second. Or, when we finally found our way back, a crocodile would bite me as I tried to help put the boat hooked onto my Uncle's truck.
This is a representation of what COULD have happened! Darn relatives.
What I imagined would pop out of the water to take me down.
I realized, after this trip, that some families are fundamentally screwy no matter what. And that I really hate the idea of being dragged into dark waters by just about anything.
Even these guys. I'm dead serious. ;)
So anyway I'm realizing this blog isn't really a well formatted one. I write stuff every now and then and its usually not part of a theme.
On that disordered note, I started a side project to my classes. Its a fictional novel that might not see the light of day. Its just a way to relieve boredom and be productive at the same time. Its 65 pages so far!
Alright, till next time :D

Pissed about Black Friday
Now idk if this is just me, but I've been going to Black Friday for over 5 consecutive years now. I love the hustle and bustle and the early morning rising to shop for great deals.
It seems like that is all in the past. Now stores are opening at Midnight ON Thanksgiving night.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/articl…
That's a link with the story and retailers doing it ^^^
Now to me Thanksgiving is a time to relax with ur family and enjoy their company. Having to get ready to wait in lines at 9-10pm on this special family night feels like a blow in the face by Big Businesses.
I like to keep my consumerism and familial pleasures separate. That way they can each grow and foster and be in harmony.
This whole thing really bothers me. Plus I did it one year and I was out by 4am from exhaustion. I couldn't even enjoy the fun of Black Friday anymore. Am I suppose to not only ditch my family at 9pm, but also take naps in the middle of the celebration????
Am I the only one feeling this way? I wish this whole things could be blown out of the water, but the fact is we are in a recession and some people NEED to get those great deals. Other people are just plain shoppaholics but that's a whole other issue....

Hello again :D
So it's been a while hasn't it... hello :D
Toronto was fab but also very expensive. Man the US dollar is becoming so worthless. I checked the Euro vs. the US dollar and right now for every dollar you convert you get .75 of a euro.
That's horrible (note the amount may have slightly fluctuated so bear with my estimation).
In art news: My drawing teach picked 6 of my pieces to go up in a little student exhibition. I was so happy because I kind of like to be recognized a little... its a vain trait of mine that I will own up to :)
Anyway, I feel really good about it because I think I've improved a TON in my art. I did notice that I have issues with bringing up the contrast in my pencil drawings...
So for my drawing class today my teacher says, in a Bulgarian accent mind you, "Now you will draw from imagination!"
And I was not too happy about that. There is just something about picking what the heck your going to draw that always messes me up with imaginative drawings...
Anyway, I started something abstract (of course) and I will probs post the final product here in a little while.
And finally (!) I have taken up the nanowrimo challenge! I will try and write 50,000 words by the end of this month! If you want to try, or just get a heads up on what a nanowrimo IS check out nanowrimo.org
I'm at 6,000 words as of today, I should be at 12,000 if I'm going to finish on time... so we'll see how that goes I suppose :)
Follow if you want more and I'll see ya in a few days I guess.

Halloween! Nuf said...
So today is Halloween. As I type this I can hear scuttles of little children go from house to house hoping for some nice tasty treats.
I myself was pumped for this event, I even got dressed up with some Asian themed attire (chopsticks and kimono etc)
Anyway, turns out my dad didn't buy enough candy for the children so I had to stop passing stuff out after 10 mins. It was that or start passing out Kashi bars (which we ALL know how much little children luv the health food lol).
When my baby sister came back after getting some candy, my parents divided up the stuff she didn't like, along with a secret stash my sister had stored, and we were able to pass out a bit more of the good stuff :)
On an artistic note I finished that drapery so here is the final product!
Now I must go becuz alas my evil college professor scheduled a 4 chapter biology test for 9am sharp tomorrow.
Have a safe and happy halloween!

"Our Lady of Perpetual Help" painting takes a perpetual amount of time to finish...
So I'm here again procrastinating on outlining my Biology hw...
I actually downloaded picasa for my mac, and I must say it isn't as useful as the PC version is.
Anyway, over the summer my father decided to volunteer me to paint this painting for his friend. This friend is so religious that he built a mini-church in the basement of his physical therapy business. Yea I know.
So it's safe to say that the subject I was going to paint would be religious lol
He ended up picking Our Lady of Perpetual Help. I did it in oil and it's like 24x36 (I think it's bigger than that by a little actually). It was my 3rd time painting with oils (maybe 4th idk exactly). It took FOREVER.
I took some pics of it with my phone as I went to gauge my ever-slowing-down progress.
Here's a collage of all the pics I made in picasa! :D
I'm getting better I think. I was trying to use the reference but also apply my own style and effects to the painting. I need to practice hands a LOT more though...
So I finished it and guess where it isn't at???? He said he was going to pick it up and never did. It's now hanging in my house because my mother has laid claim to it X)
I'm leaving to Canada in a few days, so it's unlikely I'll be able to update from now to then.
Feel free to follow my blog anytime ;)

Figure drawing= Pornography??
Well I'm in a writing mood.
In my drawing class we are working on drawing fabric, just like Leonardo DaVinci did (awesome artist btw).
For some reason this topic led my mother to start complaining about the figure drawing class I must take for the winter semester at college. Figure drawing= Nude drawings.
Now I've already done this be4 during a summer camp at an Art college about a year ago. I thought it was odd at first, but I came to enjoy it (as an artistic pursuit mind you). My mother, though, can't seem to understand that figure drawing is not this crude dirty thing. I don't know if she expects massive orgies to occur during the class or something...
The funny thing is that she actually went to medical school, and I'm pretty sure they have a whole class devoted to the naked individual parts of human beings. And i'm also pretty sure that a medical student must view these parts on live, and dead, humans.
So this lead me to the conclusion that medical students obviously weren't being crude by viewing these human areas. They were looking at them scientifically and that's it. As an artist ( and maybe a futer doctor myself?) I would say that a figure drawer looks at the nude model for its aesthetic beauty, and that's it.
Anyway, I'm forced to take the class so my mum can't really argue on that point :)
Oh, here's a picture of how my cloth drawing is going. It's not done yet, I'll post the final rendition in a few days.
